The MSc Professional Software Development is an intensive part-time masters conversion course designed for highly motivated graduates with a good honours degree in any discipline (with no more than 50% computing content) looking to advance their knowledge of computing software. Delivered over two years, this programme is taught by leading academics and industry experts at our Ulster University London branch campus.

During this programme you will build a solid understanding of Java and its application in real life contexts as well as developing crucial problem solving skills within design, programming and management.

As the world becomes more reliant on software to help manage our lives, in both commercial and domestic settings, there has been a steep rise in demand for highly skilled software developers. This programme will provide you with the knowledge required to take leading roles within the computer science industry as well as provide highly transferable skills that promote employability and lifelong learning. Graduates from the MSc Professional Software Development course have been successful in gaining recognition from the British Computer Society (BCS) for partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.

As a graduate of MSc Professional Software Development you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate complex and specialised knowledge of skills in the field of software development
  • Deal with complex issues both creatively and systematically, and show originality in tackling and solving problems
  • Use and evaluate a variety of software, tools and techniques relevant to the industry, including advanced use of Java, DBMS and HTML5
  • Communicate balanced judgements effectively (in writing and verbally) at the appropriate business and technical level with users, management, customers and technical specialists, justifying work in the content of wider theories and practice

Teaching methods

You will be taught using a wide variety of teaching methods across the modules including lectures, directed tutorials, seminars and practical sessions. In addition to your time in class, you will also be expected to engage in self-study time each week.

This programme is assessed by a mix of coursework and examinations.
