About this course

The BSc (Hons) Global Business programme will allow you to discover the concepts, theories and techniques used across a range of business areas, enabling you to become a ‘future ready’ graduate with the knowledge, skills and competence needed to land a professional business career.
You will relate this knowledge to practical business problems, demonstrating how they are affected by individuals, organisations as well as markets and societies, and discover the relationships that concern the wider business environment and their importance within a regional, national, European and global context.
The programme offers a range of modules which focus on various areas within global business, such as accounting and finance, marketing, human resource management, economics, leadership and sustainability reporting. These modules are designed to provide you with a deeper understanding of the topics related to global business and will also help you to develop your interpersonal and transferable skills, enabling you to work and communicate effectively in a range of business environments.
At the end of this programme, you will be able to adapt to change, contribute to the economy, and develop necessary business, economic and trading awareness that meet the needs and challenges of a changed business landscape.
On this programme, students will:
- Apply contemporary theories, concepts and practice relative to the global business environment, sustainability, the impact of globalisation, cultural understanding and organisational effectiveness.
- Understand the global business environment and the development of policies and strategies that promote sustainable agendas within this complex business environment that impacts stakeholder expectations and behaviours.
- Analyse and evaluate contemporary issues related to the development of sustainable global business operations incorporating a socially responsible and ethical approach to business.
- Understand how to anticipate and manage change within business environments.
Teaching methods
- You will be taught using a wide variety of teaching methods across the modules including Lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops and project work, totalling between 12-15 hours per week.
- In addition to your time in class, you will also be expected to engage in approximately 25-35 hours of self-study time per week.
- You’ll be taught by experienced lecturers who will bring practical experience and in-depth knowledge into the classroom and enable you to fully understand global business.
- You will have access to Blackboard, our online learning environment, where you can access module resources and reading lists that will assist your preparation for classes and self-study.
Assessment
Each module is assessed by coursework only, which may include class tests.
A variety of assessment methods are used across the programme, including reports, presentations, online tests, set exercises, and practical skill assessments.

Year 1
Professional and Academic Skills
This module provides you with a structured transition into higher education that challenges the individual and develops a solid base of personal, academic and professional skills required for success at university and the graduate career market.
Organisations and Management
The aim of this module is to introduce you to the underpinning principles of management and its critical role in modern organisations.
Introduction to Accounting and Finance
This module forms a foundation for the further study of accounting and finance in later modules. The aim of the module is to provide non-accounting students with an academically challenging and intellectually stimulating foundation of study in accounting and introductory finance.
Principles of Marketing
The main aims of this module are to provide a broad underpinning which will support further studies, an understanding of the fundamental concepts and practices of marketing and the basic skills required to manage this function, and an appreciation of the contribution which marketing can make to organizational success and ways this may be both enhanced and evaluated.
Global Business Environment
The aim of this module is to prepare you to be an effective managers in the area of global business. On completing this module, you will have an in-depth knowledge of the fundamental functions and process of management in the global business environment.
Fundamentals of Human Resource Management
This module aims to enable you to acquire knowledge and understanding of the ways in which organisations approach the management of their people.
Year 2
Professional Skills Development
This module is designed to provide you with the necessary tool kit to lead your own professional credibility, during and after their undergraduate study.
Digital Transformation
The aim of this module is to provide you with a clear understanding and knowledge about defining digital transformation, what it is and what it is not, its importance to the organisation, and how it provides a competitive advantage.
Business Innovation Concepts and Practice
This module aims to provide you with a rich understanding of business innovation by setting the concepts and principles behind the topic into contemporary business and enterprise contexts and real-world practical applications.
Global Strategy and Management
This module is designed to equip you with a comprehensive understanding of the key concepts of business strategy and management with particular emphasis on its use within a global context.
Global Economics and Finance
The module will cover key theoretical, empirical and policy issues related to international trade, international production and international finance. In doing so, you will study the realities of the global context in which international business occurs.
Marketing Management
The aim of this module is to develop confidence in students to express themselves as emerging marketing professionals.
Year 3
Leadership and People
The overall aim of this module is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of concepts relating to management and leadership. You will be given opportunities to apply that knowledge in a variety of organisational settings and change situations.
Contemporary Issues and Trends in Global Business
The aim of this module is to engage you with a variety of issues relevant to global business. Drawing on a range of disciplines in the field of marketing, finance, management, leadership, and economics, the module will explore global business issues from a variety of stakeholder perspectives, using current research and thinking in global business.
Business Intelligence
This module will enable you to critically analyse traditional business improvement methodologies which underpin the concepts of business intelligence, knowledge management and the learning organisation.
Global Trade Management
The aim of this module is to introduce you to the terminology, concepts, procedures, and documentation involved in exporting and importing, border control and customs management.
Sustainability Reporting and Governance
The aim of this module is to develop your appreciation of sustainability reporting. Sustainability reporting is critical for businesses to measure performance and to meet stakeholders demands for broader information on a business’s environmental, social, and governance activities.
Business Venture Creation
This module seeks to provide you with the opportunity to research and develop a new business idea and to formulate a comprehensive business plan for their new entrepreneurial venture.

Tuition fees for 2024/25
- UK/Home students: £9,250 per annum
This course is eligible for student finance through Student Finance England.
- International students: £12,100 per annum (London) £11,500 per annum (Birmingham)

The modules you will study may require you to purchase additional course textbooks and you should be prepared to buy some additional texts, we recommend allowing an additional £180 per year for the duration of your course.
