Privately rented accommodation is managed by private or university approved landlords and is the most popular choice for our students.
The private rental market offers more freedom for students to decide what kind of place they want to stay in. They can offer you a wide variety of locations to choose from and offer more control over whom you live with. Private rentals also offer a huge range of properties in different budgets to suit everyone’s needs.
When searching for privately rented accommodation it is best to look for trusted or University approved providers for your peace of mind.
Accommodation providers such as Student.com offer guarantees to help take the stress out of finding a place to live. This includes a No Visa, No Pay policy designed for international students, which allows free cancellation if a visa application is unsuccessful. A No Place, No Pay policy offers a refund if your place at university is rejected of your start date is delayed.
When looking for accommodation it is important to consider the costs before committing to moving. You’ll need to work out your monthly budget and ask yourself some important questions before signing a contract. Will you need to set up utility bills or are they included in the rent? How much will it cost to get to and from your classes? What is your budget for food and socialising?

Student finance is available to UK residents to cover the cost of tuition and other expenses whilst studying. International students may be eligible for a postgraduate scholarship from the UK government. StudyUK has put together a helpful list of scholarships that are available.
If you have any accessibility requirements our Accommodation Team are available to help you find somewhere that suits your needs. This can include finding accommodation with an adapted bathroom and kitchen, ground floor access, and wheelchair access.
There’s a lot to think about when moving into a new place so we’ve put together a short Accommodation Checklist to help you remember everything important.
